Lead Software Engineer, Web Applications

Location: New York, NY

Department: Technology

Type: Full Time

Min. Experience: Experienced

TodayTix’s mobile-only ticketing app launched in December 2013 to connect global audiences to the $50 billion global live entertainment business. We sell last-minute (week-of and day-of) tickets to the complete offering of Broadway and premium theater productions at every price point from premium orchestra seats to discount balcony seats.

We're seeking curious, talented, and motivated people to join us as we disrupt an old supply chain model, broaden access to theater, and expand the theatergoing audience.

About TodayTix Tech:

Our technology team is driven, opinionated, and committed to customer experience. We believe that writing code can be as expressive a form of communication as theater itself.

We believe in using the right tool for the job, rather than adhering to any given platform -- our production systems run Python, Java, PHP, Groovy, and R; we use MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, Redshift, and S3 as backing services; and we rely on Nginx, Tomcat, and Apache to route traffic and serve requests.

We are expanding our platform and seek engineers with a strong commitment to stability, quality, elegance, and getting things right. This is not a “go-to-your-cubicle” workplace, but rather a dynamic environment with active cross-team communication and collaborative problem solving.

Lead Software Engineer, Web Applications

We are looking for an experienced team lead to architect and drive development of the TodayTix web application.

About you:

  • You have built one or two web applications, have experience-driven foresight, and knowledge of arcane complexities of compatibility and content delivery.
  • You have experience with continuous integration environments and tooling (e.g., Travis, Shippable, Circle) and best practices in test-driven development.
  • You are deeply familiar with web standards (HTTP, JSON, XML, Oauth, REST, etc) and version management with Git.
  • You have opinions about React vs. Angular, effective Javascript libraries, and know how to choose the right tool for the job.
  • You take pleasure in writing simple, comprehensible, and maintainable code for others to enjoy.
  • You are a curious self-skeptic.
  • You make data-driven development decisions -- e.g., using monitoring tools, analytics, A/B testing, and profiling.

  • You understand that the best solutions to technology problems often lie outside the codebase.
  • You thrive in a start-up environment, and are willing to wear many hats.
  • You have experience with AWS and/or Ansible provisioning.

This job is based in NYC; no remote work. Full-time employees are entitled to a benefits package that includes equity sharing, healthcare, vision, dental, transit, life and disability coverage.
